I guess it is only right to provide an update; I wrote about my nephew TripleO who was nominated for a MOBO Best Gospel Act award some weeks ago in Triple O - MOBO Awards Best Gospel Act Nominee

This evening in Glasgow, the awards took place and he walked away with the prize, he is the 2011 MOBO Award Best Gospel Act [News story with list of winners] and I am utterly chuffed as I offer my congratulations on his winning which by God’s grace should be the first of many in what we pray will be a long, fruitful and productive career of genius, talent and amazing ability.

Triple O - The talent

One must not miss the opportunity to talk about one’s own by expressing both pride and praise because it is just proper, right and good.

Triple O as he is known to his fans by reason of the fact that all his names start with O signifying original, one and only with individuality, genius, ability and intellect is the gospel artiste son of my “sister”, strictly my closest first cousin but relationships make for associations closer than that kind of formality; he is essentially my nephew.

He specialises in a genre called Gospel Grime - a blend of hip-hop and rap music with strong gospel inspired lyrics to which for generational reasons on my part requires I listen with subtitles but it is growing on me and I am getting better attuned to it, certain musical forms are acquired tastes over time.

Performing for the past 8 or so years, he has a YouTube Channel of his music and more concerning his activities where you can get a general idea and good feel of his music.

He released his album Flatline on the 11^th of July 2011 and it is available on iTunes and Amazon – where you can sample tracks on the album and you should not forget to buy the album too. Thank you.

The laughter of battle

If clowns became kings, maybe we can be royally entertained but the business of the statesmanship and politics will bring the kingdom to great ruin.

The thought of hare-brain ideas like performing circus tricks to make the enemy army laugh to the point of incapacitation that our poker-faced army half-giggling might gain a thumping victory.

Indeed it was buffoonery cum garrulousness that had no other purpose than to draw global attention to what was most vulgar, deplorable and unmistakably uncouth about America all exemplified in one man.

As despicable as they come

For weeks he led a campaign of calumny and debauched and gross assertions that contemned the person and the office of the President as he teased those who liked his tripe with the idea that he might lead.

Though his views lacked substance, seriousness or gravitas he appeared to the lead the polls within a party that had lost its soul to a narrow fringe of presumed constitutionalists that might well have peopled the Boston Tea Party of the 18^th Century.

The Wild West had been abandoned for civility over a hundred years ago but there seemed to a frontier force in the making that was willing to fight wars of plunder that would have made Biblical battles like kindergarten finger-painting exercises.

Pricking the buffoon

Then for all the bombast and bluster the President took the wind out of his sails as derision and opprobrium followed and he grasped at straws of redemption that gave with every new utterance that whatever credibility or reputation he had left was nothing worthy of praise or emulation.

An almost ran who has rapidly become a has-been having chickened out of a contest he had no hope in hell of winning when it really came to the brass tacks – it is with regret that we announce that the circus clown will no more be performing.

In case you missed it, Donald Trump who the sensible never expected to get far, who the respectable could barely abide and the cultured will avoid like a plague has withdrawn his unconfirmed, tentative and undecided intention to seek the Republican nomination – would someone now put Jack back in the box, lock it up and let it gather dust in antiquity?

Iowa is not Bethlehem of Judea

A baptism of hope

I woke up to the news that Mike Huckabee, the Baptist preacher and former governor of Arkansas State had taken the Republican nomination for the Iowa State caucus. The man was born in a little town called Hope where a Bill Clinton was born too.

Hope and Change are the message that resonates from the lips of Barack Obama the first-term Illinois Senator who took the Democrat nomination beating Hillary Clinton to 3^rd place.

Indeed, I feel sorry for Hillary and her organisation which apparently failed to convince Iowans of her experience and leadership qualities, it is an unfortunate situation but not one that she cannot recover from – Next is New Hampshire.

Convinced for change

The Presidency of George W. Bush leaves us in no doubt that there is a renewed need for change and definitely one of great hope – people need to be inspired beyond the foreboding of war, famine, disaster, turbulent markets and pocket-book strictures.

The people need a Kennedy-esque vision of what they can do for their country which would in turn make their country work for them to greatness and achievement.

Senator Barack Obama seems to encapsulate that view and concept, it is a good thing, but the Presidency of America is not just the leadership of 300 million American citizens, it bestows the mantle of leadership that encompasses the whole of over 6 billion people of the human race.

The people of America are very well entitled to vote for local issues, but their leader would be a global leader of great importance to the peace and stability of the world – we do not have review the Presidency of Bush that much to see where relative inexperience garnered from being a State governor has lead us to a more restless world than when he assumed power.

I worry that Americans might be deluded into expectation of youth and right-sounding oratory without assessing the real substance of what it takes to lead the world by becoming the President of the United States of America.

New expectations

Now, the prospect of America having a black man as President means the country has moved by leaps and bounds, it does not mean that the issues of race are not still a problem, also the likeable prospect of a credible female President is something useful too, if America can be liberal enough to escape from the strictures of religious-driven male chauvinism to accept a woman as leader.

However, Iowa State, 26^th in land size and 30^th in population size which is not even a hundredth of the total in the United States is not the Bethlehem of old.- Out of Iowa shall not come the great leader that should take the world to new heights – the win in Iowa for Obama is a good and great one, but I still see Obama as better running for President in 8 years after having served as vice-President of the nation for 2 terms.

This job really does require experience, we need someone who would be ready and able on the 1^st day, the 20^th of January 2009 – Obama might be able, but definitely not ready to lead the world – there is a lot more to believing in a place called hope and it is not just in making us feel good.

The least significant

Note: The reference to Bethlehem comes from the prophecy about the coming of Jesus Christ – made in Micah 5:2 and recalled in Matthew 2:6 (NIV) - But you, Bethlehem, in the land of Judah, are by no means least among the rulers of Judah; for out of you will come a ruler who will be the shepherd of my people Israel.

Iowa is the first in the primaries and one of the least in the United States, but the political Messiah of the United States and the world will not hopefully be decided by the events of this morning.
