South Africa with an economy many times the size of Nigeria with a population three times smaller and props up the lower half of the continent.

South Africa is light years ahead of Nigeria, in almost every positive sphere of human development. This is why I question Ambassador Carson's claim on Nigeria's importance to the US.

Those in the halls of power in Abuja, should not use this as an excuse to continue to sleep in office and waste money on non-beneficial schemes.

The fact that economic growth is predicated on sound and credible elections, does not bode well for the country, considering all other previous attempts at power sharing have failed. China with an authoritarian and serious government had to work hard to hit a growth rate of 10% for over a decade. It seems highly unlikely, Nigeria with a non-functioning democracy and undisciplined rulers will hit growth rates of 15%, to simply stay abreast with Indonesia is almost wishful thinking.

Rather Nigeria, should not get too hung up on what America expects of it. Nigeria should be proactive, and define it's own goals and strive towards meeting them.

If BRIC (Brazil, Russia, India and China) nations simply contented themselves to meeting America's expectations. Would they be where they are today? I think not similarly, Nigeria should set it's own goals.

The emphasis should be on developing the domestic economy, not foreign military escapades around the world doing America's bidding. Hopefully, Nigeria will avoid going down the road Pakistan has pioneered.CodLiverOilhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11065155093164512390noreply@blogger.com
